Christina Ricci takes a cut for "Speed Racer”!

Christina Ricci had been told for years she'd be the perfect actress to play Speed Racer's loyal girlfriend Trixie if a movie version of the classic 1960s cartoon was ever made. Unfortunately, she was pretty sure she'd blown it after auditioning for "Speed Racer" directors Andy and Larry Wachowski.

"I thought I gave a horrible audition, but at one point I caught Andy's eye and Andy looked at my sneakers and I looked at his and looked back up at him and sort of smiled," Ricci says. "I was like, 'Maybe the Chuck Taylors will work.

And since she obviously landed the gig, it appears having the same fashion sense as your potential employer can do wonders in Hollywood these days. Where Ricci and the Wachowskis' style differed was on Trixie's trademark bob haircut. Ricci wanted to wear a wig, but the brothers behind "The Matrix" insisted she cut her locks before filming began.

When you have long hair and then, all of a sudden, you get a really drastic haircut -- you know, us ladies, we cry," Ricci jokes. "But, other than that, she was a great character to play. She was amazing and fun and they dressed me up like a doll every day, but then I got to do all this action stuff and had a really good time." In the original TV series, Trixie wasn't much more than, um, a loyal girlfriend, but, to Ricci, the 2008 version is the "ultimate feminist character.

The "Sleepy Hollow" star says, "She's as girlie as she wants to be, but then she does everything the boys do and there's no commentary on, 'Oooo, it's a girl flying a helicopter.

And the [Wachowskis] are very much responsible for that kind of thing because they have a very strong sense of equality and an interest in leaving the world a better place than they found it.

With so much of the hyperstylized world of "Speed Racer" created within a computer, you'd think spending months in front of a green screen would be a major drag.

While Ricci and her co-stars did find it difficult at first (John Goodman referred to it as really low-budget theater), Ricci claims there were some added benefits.

She recalls, "You walk into this big green room and you look at everyone else dressed in various hilarious costumes and you just say, 'Yeah, OK. What are we doing today?' Then, they like, 'It's snowing.' We're laughing and it's ridiculous but we're committing to it. We don't know what's around us, but we're gonna do what they tell us to.

And like co-stars Matthew Fox (the mysterious Racer X) and Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer himself), Ricci had her own issues with the gimbal contraption that was used to depict them driving their various racing vehicles."You get banged around in the gimbal thing so much and you end up with bruises," Ricci admits."At one point, I had to get out and throw up and then get back in because it's a lot of shaking and craziness, but it was just really fun."

Memorabilia collector Keya Morgan said he recently arranged the sale of the silent, black-and-white film from the son of a dead FBI informant who possessed it to a wealthy Manhattan businessman who wants to protect Monroe’s privacy.

“The gentleman who bought it said out of respect for Marilyn he’s not going to make a joke of it and put it on the Internet and try to exploit her,” said memorabilia collector Keya Morgan. “That’s not his intention and I would never get my name involved if that were to happen.” more

What's happening to the security in Hollywood?
First David Blue from Ugly Betty gets mugged at gunpoint, and now word comes that Charlize Theron's home has been burglarized.

The LAPD has confirmed to Us Weekly that there is currently an investigation into a robbery at the Oscar winner's home in the Hollywood Hills.

"There was a break-in reported at her home sometime over the weekend between the 6th and 8th," said an officer. "There were no suspects seen by any witnesses. And the property that was taken is being evaluated by the homeowner."

There is no word on what has been taken from Charlize's home, but I bet they took her Oscar if it was there. I mean, if I 'm a robber and I see an Oscar (which I'm very unlikely to get on my own) I would totally take it home and give my acceptance speech in the mirror. You?

Ugly Betty Actor Mugged After Cast Party!

It was a scary night for Ugly Betty's David Blue, who, after leaving a party filled with his castmates, was mugged at gunpoint, just outside the party's venue.

"It was amazing that only 10 feet away there was a window of people drinking and having a good time," David, who plays Cliff on the show, tells People.com of the robbery. "They got my house keys, too, so the past weekend felt a little creepy. But I'm good. I'm really lucky."

After posting the details on his Myspace account, a number of friends and co-workers contacted the actor to see if he needed anything. "I got e-mails from Michael Urie and other people from the show. I'm just humbled by their concern that I was okay and that everything would be okay."

The assailants have yet to be caught, but police say they have a solid lead.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie took time out from saving the planet to indulge in some good old fashioned beat-down watching. The superstar couple caused quite the ruckus, as they cuddled at the WBC welterweight title fight between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Also on hand for the big fight -- Denzel Washington, David Beckham, who chatted with Kid Rock, and Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale.

It's nice to see Brad and Angelina doing something a little less serious for once. It makes them seem a little more human and a little less obnoxious. In my eyes, anyway.

Angelina Jolie may be opening the door to a future relationship with her estranged father, Jon Voight.

"I am hoping my relationship with my father will be more private in the future," Jolie told the U.K.'s Evening Standard newspaper in an interview this week. "At the end of the day we both wish the best for each other and we'll try to start communicating in some way."

Jolie and Voight have had little, if any, contact since 2002, when Voight made comments to Access Hollywood suggesting that she was unstable. As a second-grader, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Rippoll's dream was to join the choir at the prim-and-proper Maria the Teacher Catholic school in the tradition-bound city of Barranquilla, Colombia. But the music director felt that her potent voice would overwhelm the syrupy cadence of the other children.

''My voice was strong and I wanted to sing out loud, and he didn't think I was the right choice for the choir,'' she recalls. ``And he never let me be in the choir. It was such a huge frustration for me."more






A TASKMASTER

She is a shrewd entrepreneur and demanding taskmaster of what has become a one-woman industry that includes not only beefy bodyguards and stagehands but her parents and other relatives.

''She writes all of her songs,'' said Archie Pena, a drummer and songwriter who has worked with Shakira since she was 17. ``She's involved inside and out, in every single detail of the songs, the album, the performance, her dresses.''

Shakira's story began in Barranquilla, a port city of high-rise apartments, turn-of-the-century mansions and gritty warehouse districts along the Caribbean coast. The daughter of a frustrated writer of Lebanese descent and a Colombian mother, Shakira recalls wanting to become a writer at 4, intrigued as she was by her father's constant tapping on his banged-up typewriter.

She wrote her first song at 8, Your Dark Glasses, about her father. Two years later, she was certain she wanted to be a singer. It seems that one of the singular events in her life was the night her father, William Mebarak, took her to a Middle Eastern restaurant; hearing the traditional Arab drum, Shakira began to dance, to the delight of other diners.

The musical roots Shakira has come from my family,'' Mebarak said proudly. ``In my family there was music. There is still music.''

Shakira's ''unrelenting precociousness, her granite-like devotion and a native city prone to artistic invention could be the only grounds for such a rare destiny,'' Garcia Marquez wrote in a glowing 1999 profile of Shakira.

By 13, Shakira was recording in a Bogota studio. Her first two albums were quickly forgotten, but then in 1996 came Pies Descalzos (``Bare Feet''), which sold 4 million copies.

She hit it big with Donde Estan Los Ladrones? (''Where Are the Thieves?'') in 1998. The album was nominated for a Grammy, and the song Ojos Asi (``Eyes Like Yours''), won best female pop vocal performance.

Her first English-language album, Laundry Service in 2001, sold more than 13 million worldwide and established Shakira as a crossover star. (The two ''Oral'' CDs were both in the top five on Billboard's U.S. album chart.)

But Peter Gallagher (who plays Sandy) gave me some great advice when it all started by saying: 'you have to assume it's going to end tomorrow and go out and live every day as if it were your last.' So I do my job and let everyone else handle themselves and let the critics take care of themselves and know that I can't control any of it or how long it lasts. LOS ANGELES -- Tom Cruise's production company, which broke ties with Paramount Pictures last week in an unusually public dispute, has signed a two-year financing deal with an investment partnership headed by Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder.

The deal between Cruise/Wagner Productions and First & Goal LLC covers overhead and development, which will allow Cruise and producing partner Paula Wagner to run their company and make deals to produce films, some conceivably starring Cruise.

Financial terms were not disclosed for the pact, which has an option to renew for a longer term.

Cruise/Wagner still must find someone to finance production of those films and a company to distribute them.

Previously, Paramount had the first right to finance and distribute Cruise/Wagner films. In exchange, Paramount paid the producers as much as $10 million per year for salaries, expenses and discretionary spending. Paramount had offered a much lower amount to renew the deal, closer to $2 million annually, before talks broke off.

First & Goal was set up specifically to invest in Cruise/Wagner. Snyder also heads an investment partnership that controls amusement park operator Six Flags Inc., among other companies. Former ESPN executive Mark Shapiro, who heads Six Flags, will oversee the investment in Cruise/Wagner, the companies said Monday.

"This gives us the opportunity to work with all the studios and broadens our base," Wagner said Monday.

Long-simmering tensions between Cruise/Wagner and Paramount Pictures erupted last week with a public spanking of Cruise by Sumner Redstone, chairman of Paramount parent Viacom Inc.

Redstone broke ties with Cruise through an interview in the Wall Street Journal, saying the actor's public behavior, including jumping up and down on Oprah Winfrey's couch, and his aggressive defense of Scientology, alienated moviegoers and cost Paramount money at the box office.

Redstone claimed Cruise's antics cost Paramount between $100 million and $150 million in ticket

sales for the actor's latest film, "Mission: Impossible III."

Wagner slammed Redstone last week, calling his comments "surprising" and unbusinesslike.

She said last week it was their decision not to renew their 14-year partnership with Paramount, choosing instead to follow a long-standing desire to make smaller, character-driven films on their own.

On Monday, Shapiro brushed off any discussion of Cruise's behavior or Redstone's comments, preferring to focus on Cruise's proven box-office appeal.

"We're entrepreneurs and we like exploring new opportunities that present an excellent chance for success and innovation," Shapiro said.

Shapiro and Wagner emphasized that Cruise's last two films for Paramount, "War of the Worlds,"

and "Mission: Impossible III," grossed about $1 billion worldwide combined.

"We believe that Cruise and Wagner are a terrific investment," Shapiro said. "The track record speaks for itself."

The deal was brokered by talent agency CAA, which represents Cruise. Discussions with First & Goal began earlier this month, the companies said.

Last week, Wagner said her company had secured financing from two hedge funds to produce films. She declined to comment on those arrangements Monday.

Monday's deal does continues to allow Cruise to star in films produced or distributed by any studio, the same terms he had under his deal with Paramount.

Ojani Noa, who was married to the Latin beauty for just 11 months in 1997, had threatened to publish intimate details about their marriage.

He has now agreed to a preliminary injunction, which will stop him publishing anything about the star's life until their lawsuit is settled.

He is also barred from "criticising or denigrating" the singer.

Both sides are now being urged to resolve their dispute "without engaging in further litigation".

J.Lo, 36, sued Noa in April after hearing he was planning to write the tell-all book.
